My Accounts

Built for New Zealand

Your books, explained as you go.

Accounting software that tells you what a debit is, why your GST return looks like that, and what will happen before you click the button. 15% GST, IRD filing dates and a New Zealand chart of accounts — because that's all it's for.

Signing up gives you your own copy of a demo business — a year of invoices, payments and bank transactions to post, break and reconcile. It's yours alone, so there's nothing you can get wrong.

What's in it

Invoices and bills

Raise an invoice, send it as a PDF, record the payment. Quotes that turn into invoices, credit notes that correct one properly, customer statements, and repeating invoices that raise themselves.

Bank reconciliation

Import a CSV from any New Zealand bank and code it — one line at a time, or a whole month at once in the cash-coding grid. Rules learn your regular payees, so next month is mostly done before you start.

GST that knows the dates

Accrual or cash basis, monthly through six-monthly, with the IRD's two-monthly stagger built in. Finalise a return and the period locks, so the figures you filed stay as filed.

Reports that tie out

Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet with prior-year columns, Trial Balance, General Ledger, Aged Receivables and Payables. Every figure clicks through to the transactions behind it.

Fixed assets

A register with monthly depreciation — diminishing value or straight line — private-use splits, and disposals that show you the gain or loss, and the journal, before anything is posted.

Bring your data with you

Import your contacts and your existing chart of accounts from a CSV. Run it twice and nothing duplicates: anything already there is left exactly as it is.

For your accountant

Year-end without the export-it-somewhere-else step

Most software for small businesses hands your accountant a trial balance and wishes them luck. MYA produces the compilation pack itself.

Special purpose financial statements

Cover, contents, compilation report, directory, approval page, the statements, numbered notes and a depreciation schedule — page for page, the way an adviser pack reads.

Editable, not fixed

Rework the layout of any statement: group accounts, rename lines, add calculated rows like Gross Profit. Section totals always come from the ledger, never from the layout.

Entity-aware wording

Company, sole trader or partnership — the statements and the wording change to match, including partners’ current accounts.

Workpapers and exports

A one-PDF year-end pack, plus Excel and PDF on every report, and GST101A figures laid out to copy into myIR.

Where your data stands

It's your accounting. You should know exactly how it's looked after.

Backed up daily

A full backup every morning, kept offsite. Restores are tested end to end — table counts, security settings, and every journal checked to balance — because a backup nobody has restored is only a hope.

You can leave

Every report exports to Excel and PDF, and your invoices are PDFs you already hold. Nothing here is designed to make leaving difficult.

Who can see it

You, and anyone you invite — plus the person who runs MYA, so support doesn't mean asking you to share your screen. Said plainly here rather than buried, because you'd rather know.

Where MYA is up to

It's early, and it's free.MYA is being tested with a small number of New Zealand businesses and accountants. No charge, no card, and you'll hear well in advance if that ever changes.

Bank statements come in by CSV.Automatic feeds need a commercial arrangement with an open-banking provider, which isn't in place yet. Importing from any New Zealand bank works today; feeds are the plan.
